About the Music
We immediately hear text painting in Pote’s Many
Gifts, One Spirit as the voices enter one by one on the words Many
Gifts and then come to unison singing One Spirit. The lyric piano
accompaniment provides graceful motion to this favorite Chancel
Choir anthem. How Can I Keep From Singing was written in 1860 by
Robert Lowry but has only recently attained mass popularity. Many
new choral settings were written in the last decade and singers such
as Enya, Chris Tomlin and Judy Collins have recorded the solo. This
morning we welcome Mary Jane Nunley singing this rediscovered
gospel song. David Allen is one of the prominent solo handbell ringers
in America. His technique always amazes those who see him ring
multiple bells. Just as important to David is setting the bells down in
the place they will next be needed. Amazing!
