Sunday Services
First
Church Worships at three Services, each unique in its approach. All Services
share a common purpose, to be in the presence of God with the community of faith,
to participate in the Sacraments, to hear God's Word proclaimed, to be nourished
through the prayer, liturgy, singing and other spiritually uplifting moments
with fellow seekers, and to go into the world as a faithful disciple of Christ.
The three Services are scheduled for 8:15 a.m., 9:30 a.m., and 11:00 a.m.
and are as follows:
- 8:15 a.m.: The first worship service is a traditional service that emphasizes the spoken word, personal reflection, prayer and traditional hymns. A time of healing is included in this service on the last Sunday of each month. This worship service is held in the sanctuary.
- 9:30 a.m.: The second worship service is a “contemporary” service filled with music provided by the Rock of Ages Praise Band and powerful messages from our pastors. This worship service is held on the first floor of the “new” Ledbetter Building (formerly the Wesley building)
- 11:00 a.m.: The third worship blends traditional liturgies, creative worship arts including vocal choirs, instrumental ensembles, organ, dance and drama, and the Word of God in scripture and sermon. This worship service is held in the sanctuary.
In addition to these descriptions, all three services at First Church share
the Sacraments of Holy Communion and Baptism, as well as the reception of new
members, on a regular basis. Holy Communion is held on the first Sunday of each
month and at other appropriate times. A Service of Healing is held on the last Sunday of each month during the 8:15 a.m. service. Throughout the year we join in a number
of unique worship experiences, during Advent, and Lent, All Saints Day, Pentecost
and other celebrations of the Christian calendar.
