Outreach Home

Welcome to the Outreach Homepage.  First United Methodist Church of Orlando is actively involved in many outreach ministries in our local community and the world.  This involvement ranges from financial support to meeting specific needs to ‘hands-on’ volunteer participation.

The Outreach Team at First Church coordinates many of these activities and wants to give everyone the opportunity to take part.  We are all called to serve God in our community, to reach out to those in need.

Outreach is Christ’s love in action.  Whether its hammering a nail with the Fuller Center for Housing, serving a meal to families at the Coalition for the Homeless, or joining a mission trip in Guatemala,  outreach is our way of expressing Christ’s love through our actions.

New Opportunities:

School Supplies: We need your help with our school supply drive. The back-to-school sales are in full swing, so help us stock up! A mission team will take donations to the UMCOR-Sager Brown Depot in Baldwin, LA later this year by a mission team. Place donations in the tan benches around campus. We need:

• blunt scissors (rounded tip)
• pads (or loose leaf) of 8 1/2” x 11” ruled paper
• 30-centimeter ruler
• hand-held pencil sharpener
• unsharpened pencils with erasers
• erasers, 2 1/2”
• box of 24 crayons (only 24)

Local Start-of School-Needs: With the start of the school year we are reminded of the needs of children in our community. With our ailing economy, families are in even greater this year than in previous years. The United Methodist Women continually collects gently used clothing and books to share with less-fortunate children who live locally. Coupons and Box Tops for Education are also collected and given to the Russell Home. More information about the Russell Home can be found at their website: www.RussellHome.org. Donation bins are located throughout our church campus.

Ongoing Opportunities:

  • Wednesday mornings – Sewing for Others
  • Saturday mornings – Fuller Center for Housing and Habitat for Humanity. Both of these organizations focus on affordable housing.
  • Help serve dinner at Coalition for the Homeless (The first Monday of every month)
  • Help serve a meal at the Fresh Start program at the Christian Service Center (on the 17th of every month)
  • IDignity (generally the fourth Thursday of the month – see our schedule)
  • Feed the Need (The second Thursday of each month at 6:30pm)

Great Day of Service

Though there are opportunities throughout the year, we usually gather for special work days, once in the spring and once in the fall, where we hope to do several projects in the local community and on our church campus.
