First United Methodist Church of Orlando

Christian Service Center

Our congregation has been involved with the downtown Christian Service Center in Orlando since it’s beginning in 1971.  They have a number of ministries which serve the community.  We have listed a few ways that our congregation is connected with this organization below.   You may also learn more from their website at  http://www.christianservicecenter.org.

CSS LogoThe Family and Emergency Services program at the Center helps over 8,000 people a year who face a time of crisis.  They keep a food pantry as part of this ministry, which we help support through the Feed the Need ministry.
Daily Bread, a lunch that is served from Monday-Friday to over 300 people each day.  Volunteers from a number of different churches rotate to serve these meals.  We sign up for a week at a time when we can help in this manner.  Carol Latham (jmlatham@juno.com) coordinates this ministry.

Fresh Start is a residential program for men who are going through a time of transition.  On the 17th of every month, our church prepares and serves dinner to the 15-20 men in this program.  The volunteers who prepare and serve the food also eat together with the residents.  Doug Knox (dknox62@aol.com) is the coordinator for this ministry.
