Experiencing Small Groups
The chart below summarizes our current small group spiritual growth opportunities. These are all in addition to our Sunday classes, which are listed here. Joining a group, whether it is short-term or ongoing, is a great way to be connected and develop friendships within our church community. If you have further questions about these groups or would like to join one of them, you may contact either Marsee Perkins (marseeperkins@bellsouth.net) or Britt Gilmore (britt@fumc-orl.org). We are also always looking for volunteers who would be interested in helping host or facilitate a group in the future.

SPIRITUAL GIFTS ASSESSMENT |
Have you considered volunteering? Have you volunteered in the past and not felt fulfilled? Perhaps you have not felt comfortable volunteering because you weren’t sure how you could best serve. Then, the Spiritual Gifts Class is the answer. First Church is excited to offer Network, a class designed to identify participants “Spiritual Gifts.” Spiritual Gifts are abilities given by God and received through the Holy Spirit to enable each of us to serve within the church and community. Once you know your Spiritual Gifts, you can easily apply them to the most appropriate areas in the Church. Perhaps you are not in a position to utilize your gifts in the church right away. Once you know your gifts, you can use them wherever and whenever you’re ready.
Everyone should learn what gifts God has given them and how best they can be utilized. Imagine a church where all know their gifts and are using them for the common good! Plan on attending Network when the next session starts in the fall. The classes are held on Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m. and are taught by a highly qualified instructor. There is a $5.00 donation to help offset the cost of the course materials. For more information or to register, contact Ava Newsome at Ava@fumc-orl.org.

Divorce Recovery Workshop
Ongoing
Every Wednesday
7:00-9:00 p.m.
|
The Divorce Recovery Workshop (DR) is a place to find friends, support and resources to overcome anger and to heal from pain. Four consecutive, 11-week sessions are offered to provide exactly that as each individual journeys toward emotional healing.
Divorce can be the most painful experience of your life. Your normal world is replaced by anger, confusion and frustration.
Consider taking the time to sort all this out. As one past participant put it "the Divorce Recovery program has given me back something I thought I had lost…hope. Each week brings me a little closer to where I need and want to be one day, fulfilled with not just life, but more importantly, myself. " For information contact Phone Sheila Francisco @ 321.302.0717

The Women's Bible Study Class is in its 22nd year with Charles Stopford as its facilitator. On September 10, 2009 we began a new study series examining the major world religions. The WBS class is also involved in closely examining Biblical books, paying attention to the history, meaning, theology and practical application of the material. The class also carries on a twice-a-year mission project of sending "care packages" to church members attending college or in the Military service. We meet from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. every Thursday morning in the Conference Room on the 3rd floor of the Wesley Building, taking time off for holidays and the summer. Every one is welcome.
In September we will begin a study of Paul the Apostle, hisbackground, important contributions to Christianity and how some of the letters attributed to him show differing views on major issues such as a woman's place in the Church and the family, and on slavery.
